Leo Marx is Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science Emeritus at MIT. Dr. Marx received his B.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. He taught at the University of Minnesota and Amherst College before beginning work at MIT in 1976. Dr. Marx has authored several books, including The Machine in the Garden: Technology and the Pastoral Ideal in America, The Pilot and the Passenger: Essays on Literature, Technology, and Culture in America, and Progress: Fact or Illusion? Dr. Marx's work focuses on the relationship between technology and culture in the 19th and 20th centuries.
