Allan Jacobs is an American urban designer known for his urban design research and publications. Jacobs graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Architecture and earned his master's degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania, he then attended the Harvard Graduate School of Design and studied city planning at University College London as a Fulbright Scholar. Jacobs and Donald Appleyard wrote a popular paper on the layout of cities called Toward an Urban Design Manifesto. Jacobs has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and University of California, Berkeley
