Charles Gwathmey was an American architect considered one of the New York Five, a group of five architects based in New York City whose work was featured in the 1972 book, Five Architects. Gwathmey attended the University of Pennsylvania and earned his Master of Architecture degree from Yale School of Architecture. Gwathmey was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies. Gwathmey is known for his renovation of the Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Gwathmey died in 2009 at the age of 71.
