Rebecca Sheehan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Oklahoma State University, where she has worked for 11 years. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural geography, diversity, historical geography, qualitative methods, and tourism. Her research is also rather diverse, including work on Jackson Square in New Orleans’s French Quarter, community in Oklahoma’s Panhandle, roller derby in Oklahoma City, all-female marching krewes in Mardi Gras, and memorialization in the U.S. South. However, each project focuses on geographies of nonmainstream or marginalized groups largely related to identity, tourism, and the work that cultural landscapes do, particularly in public spaces. Her scholarship is based in critical geography and informed by feminist theory, especially performativity, as well as actor-network theory.
