Visual Journaling and Artistic Potential
Florentine Baumann
Head of Visual Arts Department, Nelson Mandela International School, Berlin
Florentine Baumann has been developing the Visual Arts Department at the first state-run international school in Germany since 2001. 20 years ago, she introduced the Visual Journals at her school as holistic tool for all students aged 6 to 19 to document creative project planning and work processes. She has been organizing several project weeks dealing with STEAM fields of research, often based on the sustainable development goals. Apart from teaching her subject to high school students, she instructs an art teacher seminar and offers professional art teacher training by the Berlin Ministry of Education. She strongly believes that design thinking and a successful visualization of concepts create the fundament for a confident performance in any profession. Cooperation with several educational institutions in Berlin, Germany and abroad lead to a contemporary approach towards self-organized learning and teaching.
