Carrie Strickland (SAID Alumni, BArch, Architecture 1992-1999) has deeply influenced development of the urban core for the past 16 years. Strickland’s work includes adaptive reuse, new construction, corporate headquarters, commercial tenant improvements and residential towers, which all have one common denominator: the rigorous application of a clear, simple diagram that communicates the design concept of the building from its site response to the last construction detail.
Launching Works Progress Architecture (previously Works Partnership Architecture) in 2005, Works is a 100% woman owned architectural studio. W.PA’s work has been inter-nationally recognized. Awards include: Progressive Archi-tecture Award 2009, the American Architecture Award by the Chicago Athenaeum of Architecture and Design 2016, over 35 AIA Awards, a Design Vanguard recognition in 2009, and an AIA Emerging Firm Award in the Northwest Pacific Region 2013, elevating W.PA to one of the most highly recognized firms on the West Coast all while operat-ing within the realm of private development.
W.PA embraces the fact that architecture is still rooted in the physical world, and our work focusing on continuing the dialogue at the very root of building buildings - how do we enclose space, what is the interface of the surrounding environment with that enclosed space, and how does that enclosure speak to both its surrounding environment and its enclosed space. Analog is tangible and the concepts that form the basis of design remain firm reference points.
Through a series of project concepts and case studies, Carrie will articulate her approach to this analog.
